What problems did Ecopixel solve?
Nonprofit Web Design & Effective Fundraising
The land trust's website had an outdated look that didn't match the nonprofit's current branding. Ecopixel conducted a "brand check" and collaborated with the web committee on a fresh web design consistent with BNRC's latest brand guidelines, publications and signage.
In addition to overall web design for the nonprofit, Ecopixel focused on these areas:
- Home page redesign: Over the course of several collaborative design sessions, we overhauled the entire home page, prioritizing high-impact content, events, and fundraising.
- Donation page optimization: In collaboration with the development director, we completely redesigned and streamlined the donation page.
- Searchable property database: Ecopixel designed and developed a new, highly interactive search for activities in BNRC's 50 reserves across Berkshire county. Website visitors can find properties by activity, trail difficulty, or text search. The property database leverages Ecopixel's ArcGIS integration to display dynamic maps on every property page.
Open and Welcoming to All
- Multilingual: In the old website, only a few pages and documents were translated into Spanish. Ecopixel solved this by integrating the website with Deepl, the world's most accurate and nuanced machine translation. Now, the entire website is translated into Spanish, including the property search, event registration forms, and blog posts.
- Accessibility: The new site focuses on achieving WCAG level AA, the international standard for making websites accessible to everyone. The old WordPress-based website was difficult to navigate and contained low-contrast text. Ecopixel's work helps ensure that visitors with disabilities can engage with the nonprofit through its website.
- Ease of Navigation: The old website's navigation was excessive and convoluted. Ecopixel collaborated with the land trust to reorganize and simplify. Now, visitors engage with outreach content smoothly.
Platform Migration
The land trust's old WordPress website was bloated with outdated plugins and difficult to edit. Ecopixel migrated and reorganized all content into the robust and secure TYPO3 CMS platform.
Operational Efficiency and Cost Savings
Like many organizations, BNRC was suffering from "tech sprawl" by using many plugins and outside services. Key Ecopixel consolidated and simplified
- Integration with Bloomerang donor management software, saving staff time by automatically and securely sending all website form data into Bloomerang Interactions.
- Event registration that's built-in and integrated with Bloomerang, eliminating the need for Eventbrite and time-consuming exporting and importing into Bloomerang.
- Ongoing administration and maintenance: In place of the previous site's break/fix maintenance mentality, Ecopixel now provides complete, worry-free ongoing administration of the land trust's the new website.
- Support and training: BNRC benefits from Ecopixel's proactive website maintenance to make ongoing improvements that keep pace with visitor expectations and evolving technologies.
